Practical information about rates, documents, and common rental terms.

Pricing notes

Base rates on this site are approximate daily starting ranges by vehicle class. They are for general guidance only.

What is usually extra: sales or local tax; airport concession or facility fees; optional collision damage waiver / insurance products; additional drivers; young driver fees; one-way drop-off charges; toll or roadside packages; fuel if you return the tank lower than agreed.

The total amount due can be substantially higher than the base rate, especially at airport locations. Always request a full price breakdown before you pay or authorise a deposit.

Typical requirements

Exact rules depend on the rental company and country. Common expectations include:

  • Valid driving licence — often held for a minimum period (e.g. 1–2 years). International licences or translations may be required outside your home country.
  • Age — many operators set a minimum age of 21 or 25; drivers under 25 may pay a surcharge.
  • Credit card — usually required in the main driver’s name for the security deposit / authorisation hold.
  • ID — passport or national ID as specified by the operator.

Fuel and mileage

Many rentals use a full-to-full fuel policy: collect with a full tank and return full to avoid refuelling charges. Mileage may be unlimited or capped—check the agreement. Off-road use is often restricted.

FAQ

No. Clearlane provides information only. Bookings and payments are handled by licensed rental companies. Use their sites or branches for a binding reservation.
Base rates exclude taxes, location fees (especially airports), and optional products such as insurance or extra drivers. Those items are added at quote or pickup. Ask for an itemised total before you confirm.
You book a vehicle class, not always a specific make and model. The company may provide a different car of comparable size and specification if the exact model is unavailable.
Basic third-party liability is often included by law in many places, but collision damage waivers and full cover are usually optional and charged separately. Check what your personal auto or travel insurance already covers.
Security holds vary widely—often several hundred dollars depending on the vehicle and operator. The hold is placed on a credit card and released after the rental if there are no charges. Debit cards are not always accepted for the deposit.
